I am recently divorced, have three children, and pay child support. My credit has been damaged and i'm a little behind in child support payments. I am currently over 50,000 in debt including student loans. However i am currently paying off my bills and back child support and am slowly getting back on track. I am a pre-med undergraduate and I was wondering if my financial problems need to be cleared before I apply to med school or if my financial past will hinder my chances of getting accepted into med school. Do med schools do a credit check?

I don't you think you need to worry about your credit history. However, some states will not issue a professional license if your behind in child support. It will also be necessary to have decent credit in order to qualify for loans you will need to make it through medical college for living expenses and other monetary needs. I am unsure if the admissions process requires a credit check, but my guess would be they don't. 😎
I am also not aware of any medical schools doing credit checks as part of the application process. I did get a few interview questions related to how much I understood about the huge financial costs of medical education though.
As for your particular situation, I doubt that a credit check will affect whether you get accepted or not. I do agree that it will be an issue if you are trying to qualify for the educational loans you will need for medical school.
Finally, while I know it is not responding to your question, I think you may want to consider how you will support your children while you are in medical school. If you have already had a difficult time managing finances, going to medical school will certainly make things more difficult.
