Through reading posted threads and through independent research, I found that most believe a science major is neither overly beneficial nor detrimental towards the medical school acceptance process. It is imperative that one loves their major and does well in whatever is chosen. Spanish immigration is prolific in California, and with such an influx of a solely Spanish speaking population, the need for doctors to interpret seems inevitable. I would like to major in Spanish and transfer to UCLA or SDSU, but I feel that my application would not stand out from others who already speak the language and major in another field. Is this a legitimate concern? Will there still be a need for bilingual doctors in the trauma ward a few years down the line?

I wouldn't be concerned, in fact I think majoring in Spanish is a very good idea. You have no idea how many times I wish I spoke Spanish - it will definitely put you in higher demand throughout training and beyond.
As for how it will impact your application process - I think you already answered the question accurately. You should enjoy your major, and if you do well in that, well in your other classes (of course including the science pre-med classes), and you do okay on your MCAT, you will be in good shape. I think that when you interview for medical school, explaining why you majored in Spanish - both because you like it and you think it is valuable for being a physician - will reflect positively on you.

I was a language major in undergrad (German), and I'm now in medical school. I think that an arts and letters background gives you a very valuable foundation for medicine, as long as you do OK on the MCAT and in your premed sciences. In fact, I agree with the other posting on this thread, that Spanish will help you a lot!
